Belly Dance - Helping To Reduce And Relieve Back Pain
I always knew belly dance had major health benefits including reducing back pain and helping to reduce back problems.
I have a student who's experiences are nothing short of a miraculous inspiration and she has kindly agreed to share it with us!
Sarah has trained with me for many years now, studying traditional belly dance, belly dance hiphop and Tribal Fusion,
When she first told me of her story I was absolutely amazed.
Here is someone who has defied doctors and specialists through the art of belly dance.
Sarah had a history of serious back problems throughout her teens.
She also has scoliosis and growing up Sara spent numerous hours with specialists to try and solve her acute back pains.
Sarah started 'modern' dance classes when she was aged 11 and tried a variety of activities from swimming to horse riding but was forced to give it all up due to her scoliosis and many medical appointments.
She also didn't find a true connection with any of these forms or excercise and was in search for something more.
When she was older she tried flamenco, but due to all the stamping had to stop and even yoga proved to much for her back and her short hamstrings!
Having tried virtually everything, Sarah then discovered belly dance and believes she has cured herself through this amazing and powerful art form.
Both her osteopath and physio have both stated that its is 'extraordinary' what she has managed to achieve from looking back at the X-rays of her spine and pelvis from a few years ago.
I asked Sarah to tell me more,
To which she replied:
" My point is that I cured myself with belly dance.
I was able to basically change my skeleton/posture.
I believe I rebalanced my whole body through Bellydance. It also made me stop smoking for good! I have been seeing the same Masseuse for over a year now and she has noticed the changes in my muscle tone throughout my entire body which is interesting. I’ve learnt so much from all the specialists I have been seeing over the years to try and relieve back pain (Acupuncture, Chinese medicine too) Anyway I’ve proved to myself and others around me that everything is possible, especially as I fractured a vertebrae last Summer and I’m fine.. lol."
So not only is belly dance an ancient and sacred art form, it also has many miraculous physical and pyscological benefits.

And a big thank you to my student - Sarah for sharing her inspirational story.
