This post is all about the energy you have when performing and why it is so important
Its been a very busy Autumn so far, lots of shows, rehearsals, classes, courses, making choreographies plus my belly dance teacher training exam coming up so my energy is being distributed a lot.
But, this post is all about the energy you have when performing and why it is so important
The most challenging thing for me is getting the energy balance right when creating a choreography. This balance involves having fast lively parts as well as soft, slick parts of the dance that is dependant on the music. Apart from technique, musicality and expression, the energy you exert has just as much importance.
Firstly, energy and effort needs to happen in every part of your body, even when the dance slows down there should still be expression and strength in your face, arms, hands as well as the rest of the body. Although you may be doing an isolation in one place, the rest of your body is still dancing!
Secondly the balance and change of energy is important when performing. If your energy is always soft or constant, no matter what variety of moves take place, the performance may become mundane. On the other hand, if your energy is always fast and manic, the audience may become worn out watching your choreography. The transition of your energy when performing can be affected by the music in terms of mood and tempo, however the transition from subtle to lively for example, can be difficult.
Finally, the energy you have in your body helps the expression and emotion in your face. So this little thing to consider next time you dance can make a big difference!
Happy dancing and energy 😉
